THE WATER CHALLENGE
For Shane and his family in Wagga Wagga, NSW, tap water was something to be tolerated, not enjoyed. The strong chlorine taste and odour made drinking from the tap unpleasant, and Shane, like many Australians, turned to bottled water — spending around $600 a year on cartons of water.
Beyond taste, Shane also noticed other impacts: he suffered from dry skin, and while he hadn’t initially connected it to his water, the ongoing discomfort added to the growing list of issues with his home’s water supply.
The challenge was clear: Shane needed a solution that would deliver clean, great-tasting water, improve his family’s day-to-day living, and help reduce their environmental impact.
THE CUSTOMER
Living in a regional area known for occasional water quality concerns, Shane’s family relied heavily on bottled water and had come to accept their tap water was only good for tea, coffee, and cleaning.
Prompted by a conversation with his local Puretec dealer, and a concerning discovery of brown discolouration in his tap water, Shane realised it was time to find a long-term solution for his family – and the environment.
THE SOLUTION
After consulting with his local Puretec dealer, Shane selected the FilterWall™ F4 — a freestanding, whole-house filtration system designed for easy installation and powerful filtration performance.
The FilterWall F4 combines a three-stage filtration process:
Sediment filtration– capturing dirt, rust, and particulate matter.
Carbon filtration– removing chlorine, chemicals, bad tastes and odours.
ScaleProtect™ technology– reducing mineral build-up.
Shane shared that the installation experience was ‘’seamless and cost-effective’’, only taking a few hours and coming in at around $400 for his local plumber to set up the freestanding unit.
ACTION
The FilterWall was installed directly after Shane’s mains water connection, ensuring that every tap in the house now delivers filtered water.
Following installation, Shane immediately noticed the water looked visibly clearer and tasted significantly better. Reusable bottles replaced cartons of store-bought water in the fridge, and the family quickly adapted to the new convenience of enjoying fresh, clean water at home.
Shane and his family also noticed that “clothes and towels are noticeably softer, and whites now come out cleaner.” He adds that “even outside, the cars and windows used to have visible calcium buildup after being sprayed by their water system, but now the cars and windows stay cleaner.”
Shane also shared an interesting benefit for his two English staffy dogs, the family has noticed that the dogs don’t smell as much after splashing in their pond.
THE RESULT
Since installing the FilterWall, Shane’s household has seen improvements across the board:
Eliminated bottled water purchases, saving approximately $600 per year.
Reduced plastic waste, contributing to a more sustainable future.
Improved skin and hair health, with noticeably softer water for bathing and cleaning.
Cleaner glass shower screens and softer laundry.
Cleaner cars and windows after outdoor watering.
Clothes and towels are noticeably softer, and whites come out cleaner.
Shane was particularly surprised by the change in his skin health:
“I suffer from dry skin, and being a male I didn't think too much about improving it, but I have since noticed an improvement. Even soap lathers better now.”
Inspecting the first-stage filter after a few months reinforced his decision — it was coated in brown slime and residue, demonstrating the unseen contaminants the system was reducing.
Even Shane’s two English staffy dogs benefited, with noticeably fresher ponds and less odour after splashing around.
“You don’t realise it until you have it. I wondered ‘what’s all the fuss about filtration?’ — but now, I would never go back.”
CUSTOMER FEEDBACK
"After installation, our fridge was filled with reusable bottles, and the water tastes just like bottled water. We were spending about $600 a year on bottled water before. The FilterWall has not only saved us money, but it’s also helped us live more sustainably. Plus, the customer service was excellent — the whole experience was second to none."

Shane’s Advice for Others
“Weigh up the benefits and talk to your local plumber or store about the costs. Also, do some research on your local water supply - you might be surprised at how poor it actually is.”
